Students and staff of the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Anambra State, are currently living in fear over the recent award of grades to some dead students after a recent semester examination. A rights group, International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law, which raised the alarm in a petition entitled: “Complaints Against Wrongful Allocation of Results to Deceased Students’: A call for Investigation and Redress, alleged that one of the deceased students awarded marks in exams was Late Ezeh Uchenna with registration number FPO/SLT/ND/R1/012/038. A young woman has died after a rejected suitor set her ablaze for refusing his marriage proposal. Sonia Bibi The woman, 20-year-old Sonia Bibi, was admitted to hospital last month, where she told police that her former lover Latif Ahmed had doused her with petrol and set her alight after she turned down his proposal. Daily Mail reports that she died on Tuesday Medical staff had originally said she would recover, but a doctor in Multan’s Nishtar hospital told AFP that Bibi’s injuries had become infected and that she died on Tuesday morning. About 45 to 50 percent of her body had been burned in the attack, doctor Naheed Chaudhry, the head of the hospital’s burns department told AFP. An innocent man got more than what he bargained for when he decided to help his friend who was involved in a street fight. A company director had part of his ear bitten off in an attack by a group of men as he made his way home from a night out with his fiancee. 30-year old Mike O’Connor had just finished a meal with Laura Dolan when he saw his friend being attacked in the street. The gang of four or five men were said to be attacking Martin McColl as they knocked the 25-year-old unconscious. Mike went to his aid, but ‘felt a rip’ as the top of his left ear was bitten off in the struggle which ensued. A piece of his ear was retrieved by police at the scene in Bridge Street, Morpeth, Northumberland, and is being tested for the DNA of his attacker.
